Last Saturday, over 500 visitors braved the weather and enjoyed the ‘Wings over Carew’ festival, organised by the Carew Cheriton Control Tower group. The festival celebrated all things military and commemorated the Royal Air Force Centenary with a remembrance service and a parade, including the ever so popular Swansea Pipe Band and RAF Cadet Band.

Visitors were also able to look around the fine display of military vintage vehicles, many stalls and exhibits including a whole range of model aircraft, ships, tanks and other vehicles. The highlight of the day was the Emergency Services RTC demonstration, which saw the Police, Fire and Ambulance crews working together on rescuing casualties from a crash scene.

The organisers would like to say thank you to the Port of Milford, Shillingford Park, and all other sponsors for their financial support as well as to the Valero volunteers for their hands-on support during the event.

Carew Cheriton Control Tower is a derelict Second World War Air Traffic Control Tower which has been renovated to its original condition by a dedicated group of local people. As a thriving museum it is frequented by visitors from far and wide including groups of local school children as part of their historical studies.
