Valero Pembroke Refinery were proud to host a cheque presentation evening at the St Brides Spa Hotel in Saundersfoot recently to celebrate the charities that will benefit from funding raised at this year's Benefit for Children (BFC) Golf Event.

Serving communities across South and West Wales, these charities provide vital support to children, young people and families.

They form part of a wider group of organisations supported through BFC fundraising activities across the UK.

This year's donations were awarded to: Tŷ Hafan Children's Hospice – £30,000; Sandy Bear Children’s Bereavement Charity – £32,000; Noah's Ark Children's Hospital Charity – £30,000; The VC Gallery – £20,000; Cricket Wales – £25,000; Snap Specialist Play – £30,000; The Catrin Vaughan Foundation – £15,000; ASD Family Help - Pembrokeshire – £30,000; Cerebral Palsy Cymru – £25,000; DofE Pembrokeshire - £25,000; Pembrokeshire Sibling Group - £20,000; Pembrokeshire Baby Bank- £20,000; Ronald McDonald House £30,000; Vision Arts Education Foundation - £25,000.

Now in its 13th year, BFC has grown from 60 golfers raising £60,000 to a major fundraising event welcoming 228 golfers, 48 karting guests, and 44 sporting clay participants.

A spokesperson for Valero Pembroke Refinery shared: “Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, participants, volunteers, and supporters, we raised £700,000 this year, bringing the total raised since inception to more than £4 million (£4,007,800).”

Annually, the refinery’s community engagement programme supports local and national charities with over £1 million in donations over the past five years.

It also has an annual role as industry partner with a local school in the Engineering Education Scheme Wales program, to help promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects.

Pembroke refinery employees also give back, with 4,000 volunteer hours helping with tasks including tree planting, beach clean-ups, painting and redecorating schools/community centers.
