Five employees at Valero Pembroke Refinery, who have all previously served in the armed forces, are preparing to take part in the 'Walk on Wales' charity walk next Monday, October 14. 'Walk on Wales' is a charity walk around the entire Wales Coast Path, in aid of the Welsh Guards Afghanistan Appeal and Combat Stress.

Valero are the sponsors of the October 14 part of the walk from Pwllcrochan to Freshwater West, taking in the coastal path going past Pembroke Refinery.

Chris Wigginton, security adviser, Keith Thomas, manager fixed equipment, Jamie Main, refining operations adviser, Mo Pulford, cost controller and Mick Morgan, refinery applications analyst, will be joining the 'Walk on Wales' team for this 12.67 miles section, with the team carrying a specially commissioned silver baton inscribed with the names of those 50 Welsh Guardsmen who died while serving their country in Afghanistan, Iraq, Northern Ireland and the Falklands.

Wigginton said: "It's great that Valero and the walkers are able to help such a worthwhile cause. We're all looking forward to the challenge and getting to view some of the scenery around the refinery from a different angle, and hopefully raise some money along the way for these two important charities."

Set up by Jan Koops and Dai Graham, both Welsh Guards veterans of the Falklands War, 'Walk on Wales' aims to raise £1 million as well as remember and acknowledge the contribution of the Welsh Guardsmen who have died on active service since the end of the Second World War. The 'walk' began on August 25 from the Senedd in Cardiff, went overland to North Wales, and will end back in Cardiff Bay on November 2.
