Sir,
It was with utter disbelief that I read in last Friday's Tenby Observer the report on the proposed waste and recycling facility being located adjacent to Brooklands Care Home.
I should stress that I have no personal involvement in this matter, nor do I have any relatives in this home, but I think that the proposal is outrageous for all the reasons expressed in your report.
I realise of course we do need suitable facilities for dealing with waste and recycling, but surely there are other suitable sites in the area which would not cause any potential nuisance and inconvenience to local residents. As one of your interviewees quite rightly remarked, the county council would not entertain the idea of siting such a facility adjacent to a school or hospital, so one can only believe that the officials responsible for such a proposal have shown a cynical disregard, not only for the feelings of the staff and residents of the home, but also for the obvious distress of the relatives of the care home residents.
It would be very interesting to read the views of our local councillors on this matter, for after all they were elected to represent the views of their constituents and not merely endorse the wishes of the county council officials or cabinet committee. I very much hope that the National Parks Authority will veto this proposal on behalf of the vulnerable people concerned, whose only crime is that of growing old.
Clifford Hall,
Pentlepoir.
