Public entertainment licence holders in Tenby have been warned that unless behaviour in the resort improves, they will face having their opening hours cut.
Last week senior police officers in Pembrokeshire admitted that they were becoming increasingly concerned about 'unwarranted behaviour' of some individuals in Tenby as the resort's popularity as a venue for Stag and Hen parties increases.
Things have reached such a state that officers from other parts of the division have to be drafted in at weekends to deal with the problem.
The police's licensing officer, Tony Davies, told the licensing committee of the county council on Friday that the problems in Tenby were now "horrendous," with a number of very serious offences, including sexual assault and rape being reported in recent weeks.
"The police are not happy with the situation in Tenby and have been monitoring things very closely over recent weeks," he continued.
"My instructions from senior officers are to cut back all new public entertainment licences (PEL) in the resort and this is presently being done through seeking compromises with the applicants.
"However, if the current situation in the town continues as it is, I will be making representations at the PEL renewal sessions in January to cut back every such licence in Tenby," he stressed.
