A new initiative to cut through the training maze and make sure that the tourism industry gets the skills for success it needs got underway last week. The organisation behind the initiative, Gallu/Can Do, will investigate the needs of the tourism industry and the support needed in relation to skill development, ensuring the training providers devise programmes which are in tune with the needs of the tourism operators. Gallu/Can do Pembrokeshire co-ordinator, Llowri Edwards, said: "We hope by working closely with the local tourism related businesses here in Pembrokeshire we will be able to help them to identify their needs and people challenges and offer support by matching them with local providers who can offer the right solutions. "We believe this will give us a real feel for the needs of the tourism industry in the area and hopefully help increase business interest in skills and training." Tourism in the South West Wales area is recognised as a key part of the local economy and community and this initiative will analyse the challenges being faced by small to medium-sized enterprises and provide demand led solutions. Gary Davies, of South West Wales Tourism Partnership, said: "This initiative is exactly what is needed to bridge the gap between tourism operators and the training providers, to ensure that the skills of people entering the tourism trade are targeted and focused." Lisa added: "For the first time we are asking the industry to be specific about what they want so that we can get to work ensuring they get the support they need."
