Sunday, September 2 , saw a fantastic day of rugby at Neyland Rugby Club. The black and reds of Tenby Under 10s attended and showed the county what a massive prospect this side has.
Their day began with a hard and exciting game against Milford, who turned up with eight eager players. From the start, the skills of rugby started flowing, with passing, monster tackles, ball handling and elegant running by both teams.
With only six minutes each way, it proved a difficult task to keep the Milford squad in check as they scored some cracking tries. In the second half, the Tenby unit found another gear and gained respect from their coaches and onlookers alike, but even with their second half domination, it was Milford who left the victors.
Their next opponents were the mighty Whitland, who from previous encounters have given Tenby many an exciting game. This was no exception. The effort in defence by the Seasiders could only be matched by that of a top Welsh 1st XV. Whitland have a superb player, affectionately called The Tank, but credit to the Tenby boys, he was kept quiet all game with brave tackling.
However, it was still a tall order and even with their tails up high, the score went Whitland's way to give Tenby their second loss in succession.
With the pressure on, it was time to win or go home. This triumph came against Narberth, which again was an excellent game for all to watch. Guts and determination from all who played provided the win required.
Finally, it was the host team to face the wrath of the Tenby steamroller. This game was the closest of all and with pride and rugby brains in top gear, Tenby took the game and secured a place in the final - and what a final it was.
Whitland played like warriors and even with their hearts bursting with pride, Tenby were unable to match their strength and domination and lost gracefully to the better side.
This was a fantastic result for the United's U10s in what was their first time together since last season, with new players, new rules etc.
The coaches were full of praise for the lads who produced such an enormous effort. They showed great skills, good team spirit and were well behaved, and showed the county that Tenby means business in this year's junior rugby section. Well done lads.
