Sunday saw the clash of the Titans at Heywood Lane, with Tenby entertaining the ever-impressive Whitland. Historically this event provides end-to-end excitement and this match was no exception.

Captain for the day was Lewis Canton. He led by example with his trademark of hard tackling and damaging attacking runs. This put pressure immediately on the Whitland defenders, who tackled gallantly to halt the Tenby onslaught.

It was obvious power was to be a very important ingredient of this game, which came in the form of Henry Lawrence, a very impressive Daniel Gosnold, Denny Paxton and the ever-present Tom Baker. Each of these forwards played to their best in all abilities, which included some long-awaited support play. They seemed to click in this department, supporting the likes of Andrew Cooke, who never stopped gaining the hard yards, Alex Thomas, who played like he was on trial for Wales, and Lewis Davies.

This young man has developed tremendously over the last few months to become a formidable member of the front row. His strength and determination paid dividends with the first try of the game, which Ianto Griffiths converted comfortably.

The backs for the Seasiders also linked well with the forwards with terrific attacking runs. Passing along the line came more naturally, releasing Lloyd Thomas to jink his way through, supported by Sam Ormond and the ever-present Lewis Hodgson.

This pressure eventually turned into more points for the home side with a very impressive individual try from the powerhouse Andrew Cooke. The conversion played tricks on Ianto by hitting the crossbar and returning straight to earth with no score.

It was now the turn of the visitors to turn on the gas. Their attacking moves stunned Tenby, who had to tackle for their lives. However, the pressure took its toll, with Whitland crossing the try line, which was neatly converted.

This slight dent in the Tenby armour was soon beaten out with a very powerful charge from the Tenby pack which released Joseph Richards to score a wonderful winger's try, which Ianto calmly converted.

The second-half provided even more exciting rugby from all on the field. Michael Robins, so strong in defence, weaved several runs in his fast and furious way, followed by the talented Daniel Thomas.

However, it was Whitland who hit the scoreboard next with two excellent tries and a conversion.

The game was now at top speed, with inter-passing from both sides providing entertaining rugby, which with only minutes to go provided Tenby with another fine try from Lewis Davies.

This brought the best out of the visitors who attacked time and time again, only to be denied by some top-drawer tackling.

But something had to give and eventually in the dying moments the visitors scored. Whitland required the conversion to level the scores. The kicker opted to drop for goal, but was unfortunate to miss.

Best game of rugby the coaches have witnessed this year. Well done one and all.

From the coaches - have a very merry Christmas boys. You have earned it.

P.S. Three cheers for the ref - such amazing talent.
