A two-phase approach is to be taken in an attempt to restore an historic landmark to the centre of Tenby. Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority's building conservation officer, Rob Scourfield, has been in discussions with Tenby Town Council over plans to see the Dyster Memorial Fountain return to Tudor Square. Town clerk, Mr. Andrew Davies, reported to councillors at their meeting on Tuesday night that funding packages for the scheme were now being looked into. Mr. Davies also said that he had consulted a Mr. Anthony Kleinberg, from Cross Hands based firm Abbey Masonry & Restoration Ltd, on repairing the fountain. Mr. Kleinberg had previously been involved in reconstructing the fountain back in 1989. "He is very much looking forward to the challenge should we go ahead with the project," said Mr. Davies. Clr. Mike Evans told his colleagues that future enhancement plans to be carried out by Pembrokeshire County Council on Tudor Square, would then have to revolve around the fountain, should it be restored, and that discussions would take place with the highways department looking into ways of protecting the landmark. "All we're trying to find out at the moment is the cost involved with such a project," added Clr. Evans.
