Tenby RNLI were recently presented with a cheque for £1,000 from local businessman, Andy Lee.

Andy, owner of Doc Windows, managed to raise the huge sum by buying an old banger, doing it up and then going on an ‘adventure’.

Along with his son Ben, they started by driving to France on July 28 last year to register the vehicle. The next day, they drove 504 miles to Annecy, before driving over the alps to San Remo, Italy the following morning. Next, they drove to Monaco and then on to Perpignan and on the final day, they drove to Barcelona.

All expenses such as the car, hotels, fuel and flights were paid for out of their own pockets.

Phil Rees, lifeboat operations manager at Tenby Lifeboat Station, said: “We are extremely grateful to Andy. It is gifts like this that keep the RNLI running day in, day out and it just wouldn’t be possible without very generous donations like this.”
