Folly Farm is announcing yet another new arrival with their new hand-reared tawny owl male called Troy who arrived at the park in May.

Troy joins a female barn owl called Achilles that was hatched in April 2006 and hand-reared by park keeper Lynsey Woods. It is hoped that the pair's arrival will alert the public to the pressures faced by British wildlife.

Whilst barn owls were once a familiar sight, they are becoming less so due to the destruction of hedgerows and the conversion of old barns and farm buildings to modern housing.

Through Folly Farm's commitment to conservation, the team are helping the barn owl to recover its dwindling numbers.

This will go some way to ensure that the nocturnal creature's characteristic 'Twit-Twoo' call - which is actually a duet between male and female owls - continues for many years to come.

Lynsey Woods said: "Working so closely with these owls has been an amazing experience; it is great to interact with the animals and guests. Judging by the response so far, they will be a big hit with everyone!"
