The organisers of an annual charity cycle ride from Cardiff to Tenby are hoping to finish the journey back in the resort's town centre this year, after gaining support from local councillors.
'Carten' members met with councillors ahead of Tuesday night's meeting of the town council, to inform them of preparations for this year's event, which has gone from just four riders in 2004 to over a whopping 1,000 enjoying the challenge of riding the 100 miles from the Welsh capital to Tenby.
"There will possibly be around 2,000 riders taking part this May, so we're hopeful of finishing the ride in Tudor Square, and then down to the harbour, rather than sneaking in through Crackwell Street like this year, but we're aware this would require a road closure," Carten member Peter Palmer explained to councillors.
"Our main role is fundraising and, although our cause has been to support Velindre Cancer Centre, we are also on the lookout for a worthy local charity in the Tenby area to raise money for," he continued.
Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown said that she would personally like to see the riders coming in through Tudor Square again, as it was easier for crowds to gather in that area to welcome the cyclists in.
"It works well for other events such as the Long Course and is more beneficial for tourism in the town," she commented.
The town clerk told the organisers of the Carten that he would be happy to attend a meeting with them when they held discussions with Pembrokeshire County Council's safety advisory group on the possibility of closing the centre of Tenby for part of the day, whilst the riders came into the square.
The ride, which also involves a marquee event being held down the harbour with Tenby and District Lions, will take place on Saturday, May 9.
