THREE young Pembrokeshire people are donning running shoes to help raise funds in support of the Withybush Hospital Cancer Day Unit Appeal.

Anna Lewis recently took part in the Cardiff 5K Fun Run in memory of both of her grandfathers and raised over £200 for the appeal. Two other young people, Ally Rosser and James Roach-John, are preparing to run in this year's Cardiff Half Marathon on October 14 in support of the same charity.

Ally, who lives in Haverfordwest, commented: "I am running to raise money for the Chemotherapy Day Unit that provided my fiance Richard with not just first class treatment during his course of chemotherapy, but supported us both and kept us going no matter what. I am really grateful to them all at the unit and wish to give something back if I can."

James (pictured with Ally), who lives in Narberth, added: "My dad suffers with a form of leukaemia, which means that he has regular blood transfusions in the Cancer Day Unit, and I am humbled by the wonderful work which the staff do, helping patients and their families from Pembrokeshire who are touched by this terrible illness."

Ally and James have set themselves a target to raise between them over £1,500 in sponsorship in advance of the race and have joined forces with the Withybush Hospital Cancer Day Unit Appeal charity shop based at Riverside, Victoria Place in Haverfordwest . Ally has already raised £700 for the appeal after organising a well-supported family Tea Party at the beginning of July at the Picton Centre, Haverfodwest

Trish George, who is a trustee of the charity, commented: "We are so proud of all three runners for entering these races in support of our charity. Ally and James will run in specially designed T-shirts which we have provided and we wish them every success with the run."

Both runners have set up a website page to collect further offers of sponsorship and this can be accessed via the CDU Appeal charity website at http://www.whcduappeal.co.uk">www.whcduappeal.co.uk by clicking on the 'Donate' button.

James added: "Any donations and support we receive will support this wonderful charity to help the unit to do its amazing job!"
