TO celebrate its new university status, Trinity University College is launching the Trinity Awards in recognition of outstanding individuals who have made a substantial contribution to a community or voluntary initiative within the counties of Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.

"These awards provide an opportunity to recognise the endeavour and the personal dedication of individuals who have made a difference to their communities," said principal Dr. Medwin Hughes. "It is also a fitting way to celebrate Trinity's achievements in recent years; the result of which has been recognition as a University College. Trinity strives to serve the needs of the community in South West Wales and is keen to recognise and acknowledge the contribution of others."

Nominations are invited for seven Community Awards from which an overall winner will be chosen to receive the Trinity Award for their outstanding achievement in the service of the community.

Categories are: Learning in the Community; Youth Endeavour for Better Communities; Language and Community; Faith in our Communities; Enriching Life in the Community; Sports and Recreation, as well as Disability in the Community.

The panel of judges, chaired by Mr. D. H. Davies, former chief executive of Dyfed County Council, includes representatives of Trinity University College governors and fellows, as well as representatives of Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion County Councils.
