Ladies' Section
On Tuesday, there was a good turnout for the Flag competition which was played in good weather. Everyone set off with their flags, hoping to be one of the longest. As it turned out, Ann Dassen had that honour, with Liz Crockford coming a close second.
Chris Collinson and Julie Llamas were paired and on the fourth Julie chipped in from about 30-foot and jumped for joy; then Chris did the same from about 25-foot. They were as pleased as punch, as one from that distance is great, but two is fantastic. It was great to see a group of ladies enjoying their day.
Don't forget ladies, there is a wine and spirits competition tomorrow (Saturday), so get your name down.
The result of the monthly medal, which was played in glorious sunshine, was: 1. Bet McMann nett 72; 2. Bethan Morris nett 73; 3. Lind Coward nett 77.
The shot of the day belonged to Chris Lewis, who almost got a hole-in-one after driving from the 10th tee - unfortunately the hole was on the practice chipping green! She hit the tree to the left of the fairway and the ball arced majestically to the right and landed on the practice area, much to the delight of the spectators enjoying the sunshine on the terrace.
Six ladies went out for the swingers on a very busy Sunday. It was great to see the golf course in full swing and once again the weather held for us. Chris Collinson won with 31 points, which included two birdies, and she was thrilled to bits.
Men's section
On Sunday, February 27, a team from Trefloyne played a home tie against South Pembs Golf Club in the Mail on Sunday team event.
The competition was singles singles matches and South Pembs. won by one after some very close games.
Results were: Mel Neale lost 2 and 1, John Calleja lost 2 and 1, Adam Thorne lost 2 and 1, Graham Longster won on the last and Martin Yates won 2 and 1.
Good luck to South Pembs. in the next round.
The result of Tuesday's pro shop stableford was: 1. Barry Thorne 36 pts, after countback, from John Bancroft, with David Crowley coming third.
The Thursday seniors' roll-up was won by Martin Davies 39 pts, 2. David Crowley 37, 3. Barry Wood 34.
There was a large turnout for the Sunday swingers and the result was: 1. Barry Thorne, who won both the stableford and swingers' competitions with 38 pts, 2. Martin Yates 35, 3. Trevor Lewis 33.
Tomorrow (Saturday) there is a wine and spirits competition and the course is going to be played backwards, i.e. the 10th tee will become the first and the ninth hole will become the 18th.
The thinking behind this is that the 10th tee will make for a better opening hole, being in front of the terrace, and the ninth a better finishing hole, as the spectators on the terrace can see the approaching play as the round ends.
This is an experiment to see if this is a viable option for the future, so we would appreciate your participation and feedback after the round.
We are hoping to start the Wednesday night roll-up this coming Wednesday, March 16, with a 5 pm tee-off. As the nights draw out, the tee-off will be put back to accommodate those who struggle to make it after work.
