Finals Weekend

Congratulations to all members who achieved a place in the finals. It's a great honour to play in a final and I hope you all had a good day (writes M. R..).

In the Paddock Inn pairs (men's pairs four ball better ball), Billy and Neil Truman competed against Mark Ensor and Meurig Evans, with Billy and Neil winning 4 and 3.

The Pembroke Trophy was for the ladies' pairs, with Caroline Fletcher and Sue Shooter taking on Hari and Delyth Truman, with Caroline and Sue winning what I can imagine would have been a very close match.

The Bush House pairs was a four ball better ball competition which could be entered by any combination of players, with Bethan and Jeremy Morris due to take on Chris Thompson and Brian Anderson. Unfortunately, Brian was unable to compete on the day and Chris plyed Bethan and Jeremy on his own. In the end, Beth and Jeremy were triumphant, but only after 18 holes.

The Alice Shapcott competition was the mixed pairs greensome foursomes and Adam and Heather Thorne played against Colin and Julie Jenkins. Adam and Heather won against the very consistent Colin and Julie.

In the Laidler Cup (men's singles, category two), Gareth Roberts played against John Calleja, with John being victorious on the day.

In the division one men's singles, which was the Wesley House competition, Mel Neale took on Simon Arthur and proceeded to win the match.

The Millforge Trophy was the ladies' singles competition and with Beth Morris and Michelle Richards in the final, it was always going to be a very close match due to negligible handicap difference. Michelle eventually won 3 and 1 and both players fully enjoyed the experience.

Congratulations to all winners and the trophies will all be awarded on presentation evening, which this year is being held on Saturday, October 30 (Hallowe'en). We are hoping for a very good turnout in support of all winners.

Also on Saturday there was a men's stableford competition for those members who weren't in a final and who chose not to watch the matches or offer to be a referee.

Congratulations to Alan Griffiths who scored a whopping 41 points and achieved a handicap reduction of two shots to 21.

In second place with an impressive 38 points was Steven Rogers, one of our newer members.

There were two birdie 2s, with Barry Neale scoring one on the sixth hole and Angelo Zeraschi getting one on the 16th. Both were rewarded with £5.50 pro-shop credit.
