seniors v Glyn Abbey

Last Thursday, Trefloyne played host to Glyn Abbey Seniors. Having been beaten at Glyn Abbey earlier in the season, the team were keen to reverse the defeat.

Conditions were good and the course had recovered well from the downpour earlier in the week.

Captain Graham Harrison, back with his usual partner Bob Burks, had to face Glyn Abbey's star player, Mike Wilkins (handicap six) and his captain Roy Griffiths. In Graham's words, "Bob had a fantastic game" and the result was a noteworthy win for Graham and Bob by 5 and 4 - what a start!

Next off were the Jones', Darrel and Derek. Their opponents proved to be fighters and the outcome was decided at the 18th in favour of the home pair.

Third away were Pat Casement and Trevor Lewis, and hopes of a home were high, with both being very steady. However, their counter pair had other ideas, winning by 4 and 3.

Fourth pairing were Barry Wood and Steve Jones, who had a see-saw game, but managed to go 2 up at the end.

A new pairing of Graham Longster and John James came to the tee next. The first nine was finely balanced, Graham and John taking a one hole lead into the back nine. Here the tempo rose in favour of the home team, and going into the 15th dormie four, a win here gave them a 5 and 3 margin.

John Shaw and Garfield Price had a tough battle and did well to end all-square.

The home team suffered a second loss when Wayne Connett and Richard Davies went one down.

Another close game saw Gary Hopkins and Bob Maxwell post a one-hole victory.

Glyn Abbey's ninth pair took on Steve Scanlon and John Hargrave, expecting to have a pleasant round. Not so, Steve and John had the magic touch and raced to a 7 and 6 win - well done.

Lastly, Keith Warmington and Dennis Busby had only one opponent and recorded a 4 and 3 win.

Overall it was a victory for Trefloyne by 7.5 to 2.5.
