longest day challenge
Who has seen the sun rise at 5 am on the golf course? Not many, I bet, but Neil Davies, Christian Phillips and Jonathan Hicks have. On Monday, June 16, the three brave men set out to do the Longest Day Challenge in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. The challenge consisted of playing four rounds of 18 holes consecutively with just a short break and a T-shirt change between rounds. After just the first round, poor Neil twisted his ankle, but he was not perturbed and limped on regardless, as this was a worthwhile cause and one close to Christian's heart. I met up with the guys at 5.30 pm just as they were starting their fourth and final round. "We are all very tired and have swollen, blistered feet, but the weather has been kind," exclaimed Neil. "It was either this or cycle to Paris. We all play golf, so this seemed the easier choice." Their aim was to raise about £500, but they have exceeded over £900. Neil, Jonathan and Christian would like to thank 'Caddies' for sponsoring them and supplying their T-shirts, Sarah and Christine for all their help organising the day and everyone who made a donation.
WEDNESDAY NIGHTS
Every Wednesday night from June 25 we are holding a nine-hole competition for new members, beginners and improvers. All members are welcome to come and enjoy these fun and friendly competitions and on wet nights there will be a rules social evening in the clubhouse. Tee times are from 5 - 6 pm and we look forward to seeing not just new members, but our existing pros to help develop the skills of our up-and- coming golfers. For more information, please see noticeboards.
EMAIL REQUEST
Sarah would like as many members' email addresses as possible. Please leave your email address with either Christine in the Pro Shop or Sarah in the office.
