ladies round-up

The ladies of Trefloyne Golf Club have been working hard at improving their golf for the last three months and this has been reflected in the impressive scores being returned in April. In January, Gwyneth Jewitt started the ball rolling, winning the 12-hole stableford with 20 points, followed by Linda Kromrei winning the 18-hole stableford on the 20th with 28 points. At the end of the month, Linda joined Julie Jenkins, Sue Ash and Chris Lewis to win the very welcome fixture of a Texas scramble with a nett 39. Michelle Lewis got off to an excellent start in February, winning the medal on the 3rd with a very consistent nett 76. Liz Crockford showed some of the promise to come in her game by taking the next stableford with 31 points, Hazel Garod winning the Blue Belle section with 21 points (we hope to see Hazel on the course soon!). On a rare Tuesday appearance, Sheila Phillips won the mid-week medal with a nett 83 and Heather Thorne and Jill Roberts took the honours in their divisions in the nine-hole mystery stableford with 17 points and 21, respectively. Vicki Burks and Julie Jenkins shared first place in the last stableford of the month with 30 points each. March started well for Gwyneth Jewitt once again when she won the monthly medal with a nett 79. Heather Thorne returned 18 points to win the 12- hole stableford and it was Liz Crockford's turn on the 10th of the month when she won the 18-hole stableford with 34 points. Olive Maher returned to the winner's podium by winning the mid-week medal with nett 85, and Fair Fraser, hot from the Midlands, won the 18-hole stableford on the 17th with 32 points, with Jill Morris again winning the Blue Belle section with an excellent 33 points. Diane Neale rode in to win the next stableford with 32 points and Heather Thorne joined forces with her husband, Barry, to win the very enjoyable Chapman Foursomes held on March 25. To finish the club competitions for the month, Liz Crockford won the final stableford with 30 points. On a gorgeous sunny day in late March, the ladies decided to venture forth into Carmarthenshire and took on the lovely fairways of Carmarthen Golf Club. It was absolutely perfect weather for golf and we were all very impressed by the stunning views, even if we did feel a little like mountain goats and we had all wondered if we were on the wrong road to nowhere on the long drive up to the clubhouse. Gwyneth Jewitt had a wonderful round and played the shot of her life to recover out of the bracken on the par three, only to see it role into the hole for a scintillating two! She was the overall winner, followed by Olive Maher and Julie Jenkins. All the ladies enjoyed the very hospitable welcome from the members of Carmarthen and finished the day off with a lovely meal relaxing overlooking the course. We will be back!
