ladies' section

Spring certainly seems to have arrived at Trefloyne and the ladies have been inspired to play some excellent golf. Vicki Burke turned in a very consistent round to take the April medal and win the Challenge Bowl competition, with Julie Jenkins as runner-up. She will be joined by Sheila Phillips, the Silver section qualifier, and we wish them all the best in the next round. As usual, the ladies played the JOP Cup over the Easter bank holiday weekend and were lucky enough to enjoy almost perfect conditions. The very steady Heather Thorne played some superb golf to win once more with 62 points, having won this exciting competition last year too! Sheila Phillips was unlucky to be just edged out by Heather's last round, but performed very well to come second on her handicap. This year, Christine suggested changing the format a little and ran a daily competition in conjunction with the cup, which provided a little extra incentive for those who were unavailable for the whole weekend. Friday's winner was Sheila Phillips, again with 35 points, Saturday the honours went to Sue Shooter and on Sunday Karen Harries took the prize and dropped the very new handicap that she had just been given the day before by playing one under it! Well done Karen, that was quick work and we hope that handicap continues to fall. Julie Jenkins was the final day's winner on Monday with another 35 points. The next competition in the ladies' calendar was the very popular Dorrit Parry Vase which this year was won by that girl again, Heather Thorne, with 32 points, followed by Sheila Phillips with 31. These two ladies seem to be making a regular occurrence of taking the silverware at the moment and are models of consistency. On Tuesday we packed our bags and ventured into unknown territory when Linda decided to take us on her away day to Glyn Abbey. As we awoke to a horrid misty drizzle we had little expectations of the great day ahead, but once out on the course the sun came out and most of us were stripping off the layers with gay abandon! Christine led the way (her red trousers proved very useful in the early mist!) and we all played some very enjoyable golf in teams of three. The winner of the captains section was Julie Jenkins with 33 points, followed by Olive Maher winning the intermediate section, again on 33 points, and Gwyneth Jewitt, playing some sparking golf, won the Blue Belles section. Tea on the terrace followed in glorious sunshine and it was agreed that more of these days must be arranged as we all had such a pleasant time and managed to find the course, despite Gill's sat nav system thinking we were off to St. Clears! Also in April the ladies' section somehow found the time to fit in a very successful fashion show where Vicki, Pat, Jane, Sheila, Sarah, Llinos and Julie joined by Garth and Graham glided up and down the marquee showing off Chris's gorgeous clothes. Reflexology demonstrations were provided for tired feet by Wen with great skill and Sarah and her team served a delicious selection of canapés to the very appreciative audience. All in all an excellent night, with the highlight surely being Graham's scintillating orange shorts! Kristalle acted as the official paparazzi and Di, Olive and Joyce did a magnificent job as dressers and runners. Watch this space for the winter revue!
