Onward and Upward

Following some New Year unrest within the club, Trefloyne is looking onward and upward in what looks like a great new season at the club. The AGM was held on Friday, February 17, and sees a bright, fresh and hard-working group of members taking over in their new committee roles. Gents club captain, Barry Harrison will be ably assisted by vice-captain Meurig Evans, while Linda Kromrei as ladies' captain will work side by side with Barry in their efforts to revive enthusiasm from within. Olive Maher moves in to the role as ladies' vice-captain and Keith Hubbard returns after several years as club secretary. An election took place for the four vacant committee positions and we see some old and new faces join forces. They are newcomer, Richard Tiger Davies, past captains, Alan Chick Brown and Graham Willcocks along with last year's seniors' captain, Trevor Lewis. Thanks go to all the outgoing committee persons and Trefloyne looks set to continue to move onward and upward in its desire to lead Pembrokeshire as the friendliest and most enjoyable golf club to be a member of. The first meeting of the new committee is on Friday, March 10, at 7.30 pm.

Bouncing Babes

Greenkeeper Steve Barley and his wife Clare saw the arrival of another prospective lady member for Trefloyne last Thursday. They were blessed with a happy and healthy baby girl, Hannah Caresse, weighing 9lb 6oz, to join big sister Emma. Both are home fit and well and we hear the Barley house has not been disturbed too much through the night - yet! Best wishes from all the members and proprietors at Trefloyne.

Burke scores Ace

Whilst 14 seniors ventured out in a friendly pairs match last Thursday - some of our other senior members had missed the boat on joining in. Unfortunately, it meant no individual competition was available. Mike Burke and John Hayhoe instead decided to enjoy a leisurely social stroll, as Mike endeavoured to put into practice the lessons club pro, Christine, had been trying to instill in his swing. When they reached the third hole and watched Mike's ball disappear in the hole for an ace, both were astonished. He finished the day with 37 pts and poor John's money. Winning the NAGA on Australia Day seems to have been the turning point in Mike's golf career and the lessons are certainly paying dividends. Congratulations Mike.
