The latest monthly medal was played in perfect conditions and this was apparent in the ever- consistent scoring of the winner, ladies captain Linda Kromrei on 71, followed by Julie Jenkins on 74 and Michelle Richards on 75.
On the very next gorgeous sunny Tuesday, a Greensome foursomes was played, with Olive Maher and Julie Jenkins romping home with 37 points, followed by Heather Thorne and Carolinda Phillips, who makes a very welcome return to the club and certainly has the potential to produce some great future golf.
South Pembs Golf Club travelled to Trefloyne on Sunday to play the first of a series of organised friendlies with neighbouring ladies' sections and an innovative formula of fourball better ball stableford was played, which, despite causing a few furrowed brows at first, was enjoyed by all and produced some fine matches.
Trefloyne just managed to win the overall match three games to two, but Ann Williams and Geraldine Alderman produced an impressive performance with 38 points, just edging out the equally great pairing of Olive Maher and Sue Shooter on the back nine.
The honours for the only two of the day went to the ever-accurate Liz Crockford, who just keeps on churning them out!
Linda Kromrei, ably partnered by one of our very latest members, Wendy Derrick, came a terrific second with 34 points in this Wendy's first 'friendly' encounter, (it will be the Dyfed League next Wendy!) A scrumptious afternoon tea was then enjoyed by most of the weary but happy teams and plans were made to make this a regular occasion, with Linda thanking Judy Bendry, lady captain of South Pembs., for bringing her excellent team to Trefloyne. In between all these matches, the ladies also found time to organise a trip to Machynys Golf and Country Club to watch some sparkling and envy- producing play at the Ladies Championship of Europe. All members had a brilliant day out, smoothly driven by Tony with his luxury Silcox bus.
The standard of golf that we saw was scintillating and it was terrific to walk the new and exciting Machynys course, getting to grips with the difficult and challenging holes before we talk Linda into organising a trip there to play it. We all found some inspiration in watching the dynamic and consistent games of these talented lady golfers and maybe a few trips too on future golfing gear trends.... do you think Kim and Joan would mind tiny skirts and knee-high socks on the fairways of Trefloyne??
On Sunday, August 28, Linda, together with Kim and Joan and the Beynon family, are organising a fun day played as a Texas Scramble with a shotgun start at 9.30. Teams will play in fours and the entry fee is £5. This ever-popular game will be followed by a lunch on the terrace with members' guests invited at a charge of £7 per lunch. Please contact the club if you would like to enter a team as soon as possible in order to ensure that everyone is catered for. This should be a lovely day for all the members of this blossoming and friendly club to enjoy and socialise with like-minded golfers and their families in the perfect atmosphere of Trefloyne, sampling the convivial hospitality of the Beynon family once again.
