Pembrokeshire police have recovered a stolen mini- digger from Hampshire using a tracking device. The division operates mobile and static based tracking devices, fitted to some roads policing cars and some police stations. This means if a stolen vehicle fitted with a tracking device comes within five miles of the police car or a police station, officers will be able to locate it. This week, officers patrolling in the Dinas Cross area recovered a mini-digger, worth £22,000 and originally stolen from Hampshire, using the device. Sergeant Mike Allen said: "We are sending out a warning to thieves that we can track stolen vehicles wherever they may be in the country. In this case officers showed excellent initiative to recover a valuable piece of machinery. "Cars and plant equipment can easily be fitted with a tracking device, which provides added security for high value vehicles and in many cases will attract a substantial discount from insurance companies on the cost of policies."
