Tenby's Mayor has spoken of her delight at the resort receiving a 'Five Bloom' rating at an international floral awards ceremony held in Canada, stating that the whole town can feel "proud" of the achievement.
Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane travelled to Ottawa-Gatineau for the occasion last month.
Participating in the International Challenge (Small) category at the 2013 National Symposium and Awards Ceremonies, Tenby gained an 83 per cent out of 100 rating and was just beaten to the top prize in its category by a single point.
Judges from the competition described Tenby in their evaluation as a "thriving community with an energetic town council and numerous voluntary organisations working hard to ensure that Tenby remains a wonderful place to live, visit and work.
"With its miles of European Blue Flag winning beaches, picturesque working harbour and rich heritage, Tenby continues to be known throughout the world as a fashionable and fun seaside resort. All sectors participate in creating exuberant, memorable floral displays," they added.
Clr. Mrs. Lane told her colleagues at Tuesday night's meeting of the town council, that entering the event was a "great experience" which Tenby could build on.
"Didn't we do well, as they said wonderful things about our town and everyone who lives here or helped can be very proud," she said.
"This was a huge event in Canada and is recognised across America, so it was a worthwhile project to take on and we were representing Wales and the UK.
"We've also been invited to compete in Britain in Bloom again next year, and I'm sure we can achieve success in that competition with manpower, so anybody out there who can help as volunteers or offer any financial support, then please get in touch," continued Clr. Mrs. Lane.
"As a community, it's so important that we pull together, these things will not be done unless we do it. It isn't just about the floral side, it's about everything, our heritage and the cleanliness of the resort and taking pride in our town," she added.
Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas said that she was surprised that the town council and Pembrokeshire County Council had received no help from the Welsh Assembly Government towards entering the international competition.
"It's such a big thing and once again puts Wales on the map internationally," she said, while Clr. Trevor Hallett congratulated all involved for a "brilliant" effort.
