Sir, I was interested to read in the Tenby Observer last week that cuts might need to be made elsewhere in order to keep the town’s Tourist Information Centre open permanently.

I believe that the TIC is an absolutely essential asset to all of us and that its staff are great ambassadors for the town and county. They deserve our thanks and support.

It is, of course, practically impossible to quantify precisely how much the TIC contributes financially to the area each year, but I would wager that it is far more than its annual cost.

I seem to recall plans were drawn up a few years ago for the provision of a modern art installation in Battery Gardens, at a cost of £20,000, if I am correct.

This is a significant sum and, if transferred, could keep the TIC open for six months or so and, in my view, provide a far greater benefit to our town.

It would also buy the Town and County Councils valuable breathing space to look for a longer-term solution to the situation.

Is it worth the councils urgently considering this?
