Whitland 15 pts. Corus 11

Whitland failed to dominate at the set-piece and had to fight every inch of the way for this home win against a very spirited Corus side desperately trying to avoid the drop out of Division One West. Whitland led at half-time through a Will Davies try, converted by Emyr Williams. Corus replied with a try of their own two minutes into the second half, with centre Rhodri Milson getting the touch down. This went unconverted. Whitland increased their lead after 10 minutes when centre Lee Glanville scored their second try, which Emyr Williams failed to convert, but he was successful with a penalty 10 minutes later. Whitland failed to put the match out of reach, however, and Corus came charging back with two penalties by centre Dean Scully, but the Borderers held their nerve and claimed the victory. Whitland Wanderers 2nd XV 26 pts. Llangennech 2nds 19

Whitland won this Polypipe Civils League match after a hard battle, with both sides scoring three tries each. In the first half, Whitland scored two tries through outside-half Shane Morgan and centre Dan Mason. Fellow centre Wayne Morris failed with the two conversion attempts, but landed two penalties to give his side a useful 16 points to nil lead at half- time. The second half saw Llangennech cross for three tries through second row James Cartwright, flanker Alex Lewis and winger Kevin Jones, with outside- half Steffan Howells adding two conversions. Whitland's Wayne Morris responded with a penalty and with the scores level at 19 points each, it was Whitland who held their nerve and Shane Morgan crossed for his second and the winning try, which Morris this time converted. Tonight (Friday), the Wanderers play Llandovery in the final of the Polypipe Challenge Cup at Llangennech RFC. The match has a 7.15 pm kick- off. Whitland Youth 10 pts. Crymych Youth 6

Last Tuesday evening, Whitland Youth reached the final of the Pembrokeshire Youth Cup after beating Crymych in a very close and tense game. Whitland led 10 points to nil at half-time after centre James Stephenson kicked a penalty and centre and captain Alex Pickersgill scored the only try of the game, which Stephenson converted. In the second half, both defences held out and no further tries were scored, but Crymych outside-half Dafan Davies kicked two penalties to set up a frantic last eight minutes, but it was Whitland who kept their cool and now meet Narberth in the final on Friday, April 25, at Tenby RFC, with a 7 pm kick- off
