Following the success of last year’s Under Milk Wood inspired performance Tales from a Small Town, the Torch Youth Theatre return to the stage this month with another exciting summer school project.
The devised piece Castles Made of Sand follows the lives of a variety of different characters, living along the Pembrokeshire coast. We watch as they go about their daily lives and attempt chase their dreams. Will they find happiness? Or will the dreams they longed for come crashing down around them?
Castles Made of Sand is an original piece of theatre created by the Torch Youth Theatre Summer School. It will be performed and devised by local young people aged between 15 and 18 years. The group will work on the project as part of the Torch Theatre’s education programme, ran by Torch education officers Johnny Lock and Chloe Wheeler who last year won a Community Arts Award for their work with JC Theatre Company.
Johnny comments: “Castles Made of Sand promises to be an exciting project - the opportunity to create a piece of original theatre from scratch with talented young performers is something I’m really looking forward to. I can’t wait to get started!”
As well as running both the junior and senior youth theatres, education work at the Torch also includes interactive, educational workshops in schools. These sessions are drama based and use theatre as a medium to learn and explore different subjects.
Castles Made of Sand will be performed at The Torch Theatre on Friday and Saturday, August 21 and 22, at 2 pm and 7.30 pm.
