Top professional surfer Nathan Phillips has announced his support for the RNLI's upcoming training programme the Surf Survival Clinic. The charity's new training programme, which takes place this month, gives surfers of all abilities the chance to develop their techniques as well as learn how to help themselves, as well as others, if they get into trouble in the surf.

The RNLI will be holding three free Surf Survival Clinics across south and west Wales between August 16 and 18. Spaces are limited for each session, so it's vital that people book a space in advance to avoid disappointment.

The RNLI Surf Survival Clinics aim to give local surfers the skills they need to survive while enjoying their sport. Two will be held in Pembrokeshire, at Newgale on August 16 and at Freshwater West on August 17.

Nathan, who runs his own surf coaching business 'Nathan Phillips Surf Coaching', is one of the few current surfing professionals in the UK..

"It doesn't matter how experienced you are, you never know when you might get into trouble in the sea. It's always useful to know a few basic survival techniques when you are out there and the RNLI's Surf Survival Clinic will be a great chance to learn more and develop your skills," he said.

Nicky Palmer, RNLI Lifeguard community engagement supervisor, added: "Surfers of all abilities will be able to benefit from the Surf Survival Clinic. Amateur surfers will get the chance to learn safety skills, effective paddling and duck diving which should help them minimise any injuries should they get into trouble. For the more experienced surfer, we will be giving rescue and first aid demonstrations so that they can continue developing their skills in the surf."

Anyone who wishes to take part in the RNLI's Surf Survival Clinic should be 18 or over. Each session is free, but spaces are limited. To book a space or for more information, contact Nicky Palmer on 07969 208076.
