The Pembrokeshire committee of Macmillan Cancer Support enjoyed lunch at Lamphey Hall to mark the prestigious Douglas Macmillan award to Jimmy Riley.
The award is the highest accolade bestowed on a volunteer by Macmillan and Jimmy is one of only five people in Wales to receive the honour in 2011.
Accepting the award from Sue Reece, fundraising manager for South and West Wales, Jimmy explained that the encouragement and dedication of his Macmillan nurse got him through the dark days following his cancer operations and inspired him to fundraise to help others. This he has done with some style.
Jimmy sought out close friend and confidante, Alan Mason, who has organised and supported Jimmy throughout his fundraising. This inspirational team set a target of £20,000 which they thoroughly smashed before joining and becoming a vital part of the Pembrokeshire committee of Macmillan Cancer Support.
