Tavernspite CP School was recently awarded the National Quality Award, one of very few schools in Wales to have received this award.

Angela Burns AM visited the school recently and enjoyed a tour around the school, seeing the many things that are going on in order for the school to pass the assessment.

The National Quality Award is the highest level of the Healthy Schools Scheme and covers key areas, including food and fitness, emotional health and wellbeing, safety and the environment.

The school underwent a two-day assessment in which the children were required to give a guided tour around the school to demonstrate all the projects in action that help to qualify the school for this award.

Headteacher Kevin Phelps said: "We were obviously delighted to receive this award. It has been a lot of work across the whole school community, but it has certainly been worth it. Our practices are now deeply embedded into the life of the school and everyone benefits greatly."
