Tinman Wyndham Williams suited up recently as he met Dorothy (Sharron Hardwick) and Lorraine Niederlag, of Tuk Tuk Time, to collect tins and other items donated on Tinman Tuesday for local foodbanks.

The Tinman’s camper van was full with donations from Tinman Narberth for Pembrokeshire Foodbank and the Tuk Tuk was stacked up with items from Kilgetty and surrounding areas Tinman collections for PATCH.

In a meeting at Buttles Caraven Park, Begelly, home of the Tuk Tuks, the Tinman also met Paul Clayton, PATCH delivery driver.

PATCH and Pembrokeshire Foodbank rely on our community’s generosity to help support people who are facing difficult times. With job losses, finances under pressure and businesses folding, the demand for Foodbanks is increasing. It is encouraging to see the kindness shining from our community as we get together to support those worried about feeding themselves and their children.

“Patch has been well supported for the 12 years it has been running. Since the pandemic the need has increased dramatically, but so has the giving,” said PATCH manager Tracey.

“Without the extra support from projects like Tinman Tuesday, we wouldn’t be able to meet the sad increase. More people are losing work, being furloughed and having to feed children that are home all of the time. We have consolidated all our bases into our Milford HQ and have volunteers delivering parcels all over the county. This means clients don’t have to travel and it keeps contact to a minimum. I am constantly amazed at how Pembrokeshire people are so willing to help fellow Pembrokeshire people who are in need.”

Tinman Tuesday has 13 groups across Pembrokeshire. How each group runs varies, but all give locals the opportunity to donate and support families and individuals in need. Without you they could not do this, so thanks go to all for their kindness.

Pembrokeshire Foodbank is faced with similar increasing demand and appreciates the support. On receiving their donations, Hayley Archer, Pembrokeshire Foodbank deputy manager said: “Absolutely fantastic effort by all involved, as always! We are always overwhelmed by the support and every single tin counts. Keep on following that yellow brick road!”

A new Tinman Tuesday Tourists group has been set up to encourage visitors to support the project. For information, visit @TinManTuesdayTourists.
