JANUARY sees three new exhibitors showing their work at Oriel Q Gallery, Queen's Hall, Narberth, and is just the beginning of an exciting new programme for 2007.
In the main gallery is 'Bound' by Philippa Lawrence - an Arts Council of Wales supported project to identify and 'wrap' an ancient dead tree in each of the old counties of Wales. To date, 'wrappings' have been completed in three of the nine counties. "These temporary wrapped trees in the landscape became much loved by local people and most often I was told that the sight of the trees lifted their spirits," said Philippa.
This exhibition is of photographs documenting the project.
In Oriel Fach are the unique sculptural works of Deborah Lewis.
Deborah explained: "I work with bark, combining fabrics and haberdashery findings. "It is a covering lifted away from the tree, away from the body. When a piece of bark suggested an item of clothing, shaped by a body that was no longer there,
"I began to combine the materials together. It holds traces of history, displays texture and colour." The photographer featured on the stairs is Flora Moody and shows a collection of fireworks studies taken over the past two years. "I like the idea of capturing something that only lasts a few seconds and has light and form for that moment in time," said Flora. Exhibitions start tomorrow (Saturday) and run until Saturday, February 10.
The gallery is open Wednesday to Saturday, 10 am - 5 pm, and most Tuesdays. Telephone to check on 01834 869454.
