Charities and community groups across Tenby could soon be benefiting from a cash boost as the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation invites people to nominate good causes to share in its annual week-long charity giveaway -Make a Difference Week!
'Make a Difference Week' runs from today (Friday) until Saturday, June 6, during which existing customers and members of the public are invited to call into the society's branch in Tudor Square to recommend a charity to receive a £50 donation.
The Charitable Foundation was founded in 1998 and has since donated over £3 million to more than 7,000 charities. It receives most of its funds through the Yorkshire's innovative Small Change, Big Difference scheme where members donate just pennies from the interest they receive on their accounts to make a huge pot of charity money. Members are invited to join the scheme and suggest which charities should benefit from these funds.
Sian Rees, manager at the branch, said: "Make a Difference Week offers the Foundation the chance to support smaller, local charities that are often overlooked by large organisations, but are important to the communities where our staff and members live and work.
"Last year, over 1,000 local good causes were nominated for support during a similar event which resulted in over £54,000 being donated. We hope this year's event rivals this success and that people will call into our branch to nominate their favourite local charity -together we can really Make a Difference!"
To nominate a charity for support, simply call into Yorkshire Building Society in Tudor Square from today to next Saturday.
