Come rain or shine pupils at a South Pembrokeshire primary school step out to their classrooms. The Cosheston VC School walking bus started four years ago as part of a health promotion project and continues to run twice a week. Organised by grandparent David James, with the backing of Pembrokeshire County Council's road safety unit, parents take part in a rota to support him on a weekly basis. Clr. Jamie Adams, cabinet member for highways and transportation, said the exercise of walking to school had had a positive affect on the children's education and well being. "It's also made them significantly aware of road safety and their local environment, while the problem of traffic congestion outside the school has also significantly decreased," he said. For more information on how to organise your own walking bus please ring Kirstie Donoghue, road safety unit, on 01437 775434.
