The Saundersfoot and District committee of Macmillan Cancer Relief are most grateful to actor and producer, Len Harvey, who devised and arranged an excellent fund-raising event when he and his colleagues in Seesaw Productions put on a one-act comedy during a dinner at the Fourcroft Hotel last Wednesday, February 25.

An almost-capacity audience enjoyed the one-act play 'A strong smell of Burning', which gave an alternative version of how the Saxons defeated the Danes.

The heroine of the romp was an ingenious housewife (Jane King), who, aided and abetted by her neighbour Mildred (Hilary Harvey), masterminded the conquest, while King Alfred (Andrew Davies) yes, burnt the cakes! There was a knowing hermit (Len Harvey), a saucy sub-plot and much infectious laughter.

The play was fun and the acting lively. The atmosphere was further enhanced by the impressive set, built by Seesaw Productions.

The committee is also most grateful to Chris and Kath Osborne and their helpful staff at the Fourcroft Hotel for providing an excellent dinner and for being so accommodating as numbers of guests changed with the weather conditions.

Thanks are also due to everyone who generously donated raffle prizes.

The event raised over £550, which was an excellent total to achieve, while the audience and the actors enjoyed themselves.

The money will go to Macmillan Cancer Relief, a national charity which also helps cancer sufferers and their families in Pembrokeshire.
