Sir, Well here comes that time again that everyone loves - Christmas - and which I personally hate, though I do try never to use that word ever, but I can't think of anything else that conveys how I feel. Christmas, as far as I'm concerned, has been hijacked. They sell Christmas cards now in August, which irritates me, the Christmas lights and trimmings go up earlier each year and the Christmas music seems to start earlier every year, and I personally can't stand hearing Christmas carols for six weeks non-stop - though I love carols and watch all the carol services over Christmas. Most people seem to feel that Christmas is a time to eat yourself stupid, spend hundreds of pounds on children who demand designer labels, and the parents just go into debt for six months. All we had in my day was an apple, an orange, nuts and one single present. You had what your parents could afford and no more, and you made your own decorations with paper crepe. Some people undoubtedly would call me a Scrooge, but I can honestly say I enjoyed Christmas then, or maybe it was because I was a child. I challenge anyone who professes to have Christmas spirit, to, in the spirit, of what Christmas is supposed to be about, take a homeless person into your home at Christmas. I wonder if there would be any takers. I am not a religious person, but let's remember what it's all about. It's supposed to be Christ's birthday. Let's spread some peace, love, kindness and really care about other people. I think that's what the spirit of Christmas should be.
