Sir,
In response to Mr. T. Wilson's letter (Observer, July 9) the staff of Spar Stores, Narberth, would like to present the true facts and details.
1. The delivery time of the lorries is 5.30 am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of each week. The lorries leave the town by 7 am at the latest, causing no problem to traffic whatsoever. This information can be verified by the depot at Talbot Green, Mid Glamorgan.
2. There are 36 staff currently working in this store, with service records ranging from 4-28 years; this cannot be termed as 'casual' labour.
3. During the holidays, part-time staff are employed to supplement their university grants and are very grateful for this benefit.
4. This is an independent store, run by a family who employ local people.
5. This store was in existence as a business many years ago and has been built up and expanded through sheer hard work by the current owners!
As Mr. Wilson stated in the public meeting that he prefers to shop in Kilgetty, this does nothing for the economy of Narberth, his residential location.
The staff would welcome Mr. Wilson to visit the store, where these facts can be presented to him. It is totally unjustified to launch an attack on any business and present facts based on surmise, which are incorrect.
Spar Staff,
36 High Street,
Narberth.
