In a first for Pembrokeshire, The Ronnie Scott’s Club will be coming to The Queens Hall, Narberth in March, in a highly anticipated premier jazz event for local arts charity, Span Arts.

Direct from London’s extraordinary jazz music venue, the Ronnie Scott’s All Stars will present a visual and musical celebration of this world famous club, on Saturday, March 5, in association with Gravells KIA.

‘The Ronnie Scott’s Story’ presents an absorbing jazz ramble through the extraordinary history of one of the most well-known jazz joints in the world.

Performing classic music from the many jazz greats that have performed at Ronnie Scott’s in the past, this event promises to deliver an evening unlike any other, to celebrate the music and history of a jazz venue truly worthy of its worldwide reputation.

Span Jazz programmer, Declan Connolly remarked, “This is a real coup for Span Arts, and expands upon our long-running well-known monthly SpanJazz programme at The Dingle Club in Narberth.

“We’re very excited to host the Ronnie Scott’s All Stars! It’s thanks to support from local music lover Ian Gravell and the Arts Council of Wales, that make this kind of massive event possible.”

The players involved in this extraordinary performance will combine top-class live jazz, exciting narration and rare archive video footage to document tales of old-school Soho, miscreant musicians and police raids. The performance will chart the club’s rise from basement bar jams, through its trials and tribulations, highlighting those landmark performances that have made Ronnie’s so well-known to the jazz world.

Jazz fanatics and people from across West Wales wanting to see something world class will be blown away, during an evening that evocatively reimagines life at Ronnie’s through tales of the club’s past visitors - including pop stars, film stars, politicians, comedians and royalty - with special emphasis placed on those exceptional musicians that played and made history at the club.

Some of the finest musical talent of the 20th century to have played at the club, including Miles Davis, Dizzie Gillespie, Buddy Rich, Chet Baker and Ella Fitzgerald. It is these musicians - their notable performances and sometimes errant behaviour - that make up the fabric of Ronnie Scott’s and its story.

Tickets are available now from Span Arts Box Office on (01834) 869323 or online at spanarts.org.uk, and will be cheaper to purchase in advance.
