Chevron has appointed a Pembrokeshire woman to replace Phil Thompson, who has been the 'face of Chevron' for the past 22 years, but is retiring from the role in September.

Jane James, who lives in New Moat, now assumes the reins as policy, government and public affairs manager at the Pembroke refinery, though Phil will still be on hand to help during the transition period.

"I am delighted to take over this role from Phil, who has been the face of Chevron for so many years," said Jane.

"I am also very pleased to be joining a company that has such an excellent record of community engagement in Pembrokeshire, and I very much look forward to continuing that tradition.

Jane has extensive experience in public affairs and has done much to promote Wales and business across the country. She was previously director of the Prince's Trust Cymru, working with partner organisations throughout Wales to deliver services to over 4,000 young people each year.

She was responsible for launching the Celtic Pride brand in her role as managing director of the Welsh Meat Company, and in the late 1990s she led the expansion of the Food Centre Wales in Ceredigion. Jane has also been a member of the Welsh Assembly's Agri-food partnership that promotes the Welsh food industry and represents the interests of Welsh food producers.

Jane has farmed in partnership with her husband, diversifying the family business into tourism and training. She has taken a major role in agriculture in the county and became the first NFU Welsh Woman Farmer of the Year in 1997. She is an associate of the Royal Agricultural Societies and has been a regular chair and speaker at conferences such as the World Rural Women's Day Conference and the Oxford Farming Conference.

She is a former Young Farmer and, as an award-winning public speaker, last November was a judge at the Pembrokeshire Federation of Young Farmers Clubs debating competition.

As well as her farming activities, Jane was a member of the BBC's Audience Council for Wales for 10 years and is a governor at Christ College, Brecon and Glyndwr University.
