The organisers of the fourth annual charitable fundraiser at Llysyfran were delighted this week to learn of the forecast heatwave through May.
This year, the Welsh Dragon Boat Championship will take place on Sunday, May 28, and the predicted good weather should bring the crowds flocking to the event at The Llysyfran Country Park and Reservoir. Last year, several thousand spectators enjoyed the spectacle of the Dragon Boats racing along the water and on the grassy banks children were entertained completely free of charge. This year, there is even more for them to do so they will have plenty of things to choose from.
Along with the major sponsors, Hywel Griffiths and Sons Ltd, event co-ordinator Rotarian Ken Morgan is pleased to announce that Major James John of 157 (Welsh) Regiment will be bringing along officers and equipment from the Royal Logistics Corps. Their blue dragon mascot Idris will also be there to support the event.
Fourteen teams have entered so far and president Mary Adams, of the Rotary club, is delighted that local firms, private individuals and organisations from the Milford Haven Industrial Zone are participating to raise funds for mental health and other Rotary charities.
The competitors are always very colourful and this year 210 entrants they will be sporting their lime green t- shirts bearing the sponsors logos. Without the sponsorship of the local firms, it would not be possible to fund the event so please come along and support to raise much-needed finance for the deserving charitable causes.
