'The Big Draw' is a national campaign to encourage everyone to become involved in drawing. It is organised by the Campaign for Drawing based in London.
The campaign is supported by well known artist such as Quentin Blake, Gerald Scarfe and Peter Blake. "We do not want to turn everyone into Rembrandts," say the organisers, "just to help them over the 'I can't do it' barrier and give them a glimpse of the benefits that drawing can bring. The campaign is not about good or bad drawing but about recognising it as a language."
The highlight of the campaign each year is 'The Big Draw,' a week of drawing events throughout Britain that aim to get everyone involved.
This year the 'Big Draw runs from October 16 to 23 with more than 600 events nationwide. You can find out more about all the events on the Campaign for Drawing website: http://www.drawingpower.org.uk">www.drawingpower.org.uk
You can join in the fun at Art Matters in Tenby on Saturday, October 19. Inside the gallery there will be a range of drawing activities suitable for people of all ages to participate in throughout the day from 10 am to 5 pm. Just come along when you can.
If the weather is kind, a large mural will be drawn and painted on an outside wall in the garden.
At 12 noon, there is a national 'Drawing Minute.' This is an attempt to establish a Guinness World Record for the largest number of people drawing at the same time. A simple drawing exercise has been stipulated by the Guinness team. It can be completed by anyone. It is important that everyone who is interested in participating in this World Record attempt arrives in good time to register for this part of the day.
While everyone is invited to join in on Saturday, please note that children must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all time. Intending mural painters will need old clothes or overalls.
Further information can be obtained from Margaret and John at Art Matters, telephone (01834) 843375.
