Sir, With regard to the letter in the Tenby Observer, January 6, we, as parents of three primary school children, who attend St. Teilo's, a small school in Tenby, fully endorse the sentiments from The Friends of Penally School. This 'big is beautiful concept' which is advocated in the educational policy of our county is totally contrary to our experiences. As well as receiving excellent education, our children have had the opportunities to attend school clubs - some from the age of three - partake in countywide events, and represent their school in educational and sporting capacities, because they want to, not because they are selected as the best. This advantage, where all children who want to can take part in sports, plays, music etc has the effect of creating rounded individuals with the life skills to succeed in the future and is not always available in larger units. All of this is achieved within the community environment afforded by smaller schools, where the interaction between all ages is encouraged and is evident in the classrooms and playgrounds. Has the Director of Education ever heard that the 'best things come in small packages'?
Suzanne and Steve Wilson, Llanteg.
