A day's sunshine brought out the revellers on Friday night to Tenby's De Valence - the cool place to be. A couple of brave smooth movers got up on the dance floor within seconds, but it wasn't long before the whole floor came to life and was full of dancing to the upbeat music of Motown. The 'Magic of Motown' tribute band is celebrating 50 years of solid gold hits from the Tamla Motown label.
Direct from the USA, this superbly talented cast performed effortlessly and seamlessly with the sweet, smooth sounds of The Temptations, Four Tops, Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye and a superb rendition of the Jacksons.
From an era of style and sequins, the show was slick, stylish, smooth and infinitely sexy. It was great to see a packed De Valence be so appreciative of the event. It all seemed to be over so quickly and we wished the music could play on - forever, all night long.
All the way from Florida, the lead Andre Lejaune, his main performers and the backing band easily charmed us mere mortals. The choreography and costume changes were immaculate and more than a few hearts fell in love with the lovely solo singer Natasha Burnett, flown in all the way from Croydon!
From the dedicated followers of Motown to the newly initiated, it was spellbinding all the way through. All the favourites were there, 'Heard it through the grapevine', 'Just like a heatwave', 'Stop in the name of love', and 'Down in Acapulco' amongst many, many more. Justifiably a Queen's Award nominated score.
The evening carried on with DJ Eugene's show - Dance 'til you drop. Excellent.
The next major event to look out for is the Salsa night with K'Chevere - check the box office for details on 01834 843568.
