The TenFoot Swim is set return for 2019! This will be the third year the TenFoot Swim has taken place and the 2019 charitable event will benefit Huntington’s Disease, BCRT/ Daniel Bridle Memorial Fund and the safety and emergency services, which support the event.
This annual fundraiser, sponsored by FBM?Holidays, is organised by representatives from the communities of Tenby and Saundersfoot.
FootStep Run
As with this year, the weekend of events will start on the evening of Friday, July 12 with the FootStep Run. This will see participants run from Saundersfoot to Stepaside with distances of either 1, 3 or 5 miles, therefore giving everybody the opportunity to take part!
The route will take runners along the Strand, through the tunnels and along the stunning Pembrokeshire coastline. For children, there will be a half-mile traffic free course, which will start at 6.30pm. This will then be followed by the 12-14 years race and then followed by the adults. Costs will be £5 for under 14’s and £10 for adults – all the entry fee money will be donated to the chosen charities.
5K TenFoot Swim
The TenFoot Swim will take place on Saturday, July 13. The swimmers will enter the water at North beach then swim to Monkstone beach where they will leave the water for a mandatory safety check and much needed feed station.
Swimmers will then re - enter the water and proceed to the finishing point on Saundersfoot beach. For safety reasons there is a 2-hour cut off time for swimmers to reach the checkpoint at Monkstone beach.
All swimmers must wear a wetsuit and use a swim buoy. Entry is £50 per swimmer and participants will receive a medal, TenFoot T-shirt, wristband and a silicone cap.
All the entry fee money will be donated to the chosen charities.
Pembrokeshire’s First 10k SwimRun
Swim/Running is one of the fastest growing extreme endurance sports in Europe and to keep pace with demand, organisers are introducing Pembrokeshire’s first SwimRun along Pembrokeshire’s stunning coastline. Key to the SwimRun concept is the feeling of being close to nature. The world’s best SwimRun circuits are in stunning locations, coastlines, forests and cliff tops.
The TenFoot SwimRun will be no different with participants setting off from Tenby’s stunning North Beach, heading towards Saundersfoot.
The first exit point will be Waterwynch where the second part of the journey will start. This will take athletes on a run along the coast path, through the woodlands and along fields before descending down onto Monkstone Beach.
Once there, they will re-enter the water and swim through Monkstone point and towards Swallow Tree. Swimmers will again exit the water at this point and will be taken on another run before re-entering the water again on the Glen Beach. The final leg will take swimmers onto the beach at Saundersfoot.
A key feature of the TenFoot SwimRun is that it must be completed in pairs, which could include a father / son combination, mother / daughter etc – it could make the ideal Christmas present!
Organisers recommend the use of specialist SwimRun wetsuits and trainers. Entry is £60 with all the money being donated to the chosen charities.
