As Welsh Government continues to ease Covid-19 restrictions, The TenFoot Swim Committee are excited to announce the launch of their 2021 Charitable Sporting Weekend.

Following the cancellation of this year’s events, 2021 is taking on the mantra of ‘Being Bigger and Better!’

To date, over £65,000 has been raised for nominated charities and local supporting services, including - The Tenby RNLI; Tenby Surf Link; Saundersfoot/ Tenby Sailing Clubs; and Pembrokeshire Paddlers, whose services to the community and contribution to the events are invaluable.

In addition to the Family Fun Run and 5.5km Long-Distance Swim, 2019 saw the introduction of the first local Swim Run Event.

A unique 5.5mile route incorporating the stunning beaches between Tenby and Saundersfoot, sections of The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path and land kindly accessed at Waterwynch, Hean Castle Estate, Trevayne Farm Caravan Park, Swallow Tree Woods, Glen Beach, finishing on Saundersfoot Beach.

As well as the Fun Run, Long Distance Swim and Swim Run events, 2021 will see another unique event added to The TenFoot portfolio.

A shorter sea swim solely dedicated to the brilliant Staff of The NHS who have worked tirelessly and selflessly during these challenging times.

The swim, which has no entry fee (for NHS Staff) has been aptly named, ‘The NHS MonkFoot Swim.’

It involves a 1.4mile sea swim from the beautiful Monkstone Beach (halfway between Tenby and Saundersfoot) to the finish line on Saundersfoot Beach.

NHS Staff are encouraged and welcomed to enter as organisers waiver any costs as a small token of appreciation for their hard work and dedication.

Also, if any member of the NHS wishes to push themselves physically, limited spaces are being made available (at no cost), to enter any of TenFoot Events – Family Fun Run; Long Distance Swim; Swim/ Run.

Due to health and safety regulations entrant numbers are limited so early entry is encouraged via The TenFoot Website following the relevant links.

Once again, Pembrokeshire’s natural coastline lends itself to all of these challenges with incomparable scenery and unparalleled community support from the people of both Tenby & Saundersfoot who help generate the party atmosphere.

The weekend fun begins in Saundersfoot on the evening of Friday, July 2, with the family ‘Fancy Dress’ Fun Run.

Competitors, both young and old will start on The Strand and have the option of 1, 3, and 5 Mile closed road Distances, taking in the sights of Coppet Hall, The Old Railway Tunnels, Wisemans Bridge and Stepaside Heritage Park.

Entrants will pay £10 for adults and £5 for Under 14s to take part (all proceeds going to nominated charities and supporting services).

Saturday, July 3 will see the Swim/Run competitors set off from Castle Hill, Tenby, along the North Walk, onto North Beach where they’ll swim just over a mile to Waterwynch Beach.

Minutes later, the long distance TenFoot Swimmers will join the Swim Runners, entering The Blue Flag awarded waters off Tenby’s North Beach heading for Saundersfoot.

The Swim/Runners will exit at Waterwynch Beach and run onto the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, leading onto private land for a two-mile run before descending onto Monkstone Beach where they’ll enjoy at the feed station before re-entering the water with The NHS MonkFoot Swimmers and Long-Distance Swimmers.

Having navigated between the rocks and tidal flow at Monkstone, swim runners will exit at Swallow Tree Beach before running through the woods for just over a mile to Glen Beach, where they will start the final leg, to the grand finish on Saundersfoot Beach.

To compliment the fact that this type of event can appeal to the masses a number of well-known local individuals have been paired up to take part in the swim run.

None of these individuals has taken part in an event of this nature and their progress from, ‘Zero to Hero’ will be shared over the year, as they share their highs and lows in preparing for such an event.

Anyone interested in taking part in any of The TenFoot Events is encouraged to enter via the event’s website: https://tenfootswim.co.uk - (early entry recommended as spaces are limited)

All proceeds from the 2021 events will be distributed amongst nominated charities and local supporting services including - Guide Dogs for the Blind; Give The Boys A Lift; Motor Neurone Disease Association; RNLI; Tenby Surf Link; Pembrokeshire Paddlers; Saundersfoot and Tenby Sailing Clubs.
