One of Tenby's biggest campaigns to save desperate families in the developing world gets under way next week. The town's branch of Christian Aid hope to beat last year's target of £5,000 by a large margin.
"It's important that we try and beat the recession by getting priorities right. And families in the world's poorest regions are always the first to suffer in a slump," said Tenby Christian Aid secretary, Malcolm Stacey.
"Not to help out at this very difficult time is to cost young children and their parents their lives. This charity helps everyone, whatever their faith, and we can be assured that they are one of the very best charities for making every penny count."
The first local event in Christian Aid Week is a service at St. Mary's Church at 6 pm on Sunday (May 10). The work of Christian Aid will be shown on a big screen. Absolutely everyone is welcome and four Christian denominations will take part - St. Mary's, St. Johns, Deer Park Baptist Church and the Salvation Army.
There'll be coffee morning at St. Johns Church next Wednesday (May 13) at 10 am.
On Tuesday, May 19, Tenby Male Voice Choir, with solo performers, will perform at an 8 pm concert in St. Mary's Church. Tickets are £6 each.
The climax of the Christian Aid festival is a lunch at St. Johns Church on Wednesday, May 20, at 12 noon. Tickets for this popular occasion are £7.50.
Anyone pressed for time to come to any of the Christian Aid events is invited to leave a donation at the door - or at 9 Crackwell Street, Tenby.
