Tenby2020's special general meeting, held last Monday evening at Augustus Place Community Hall, had to be abandoned because it was not quorate. It will have to be reconvened, and those present fixed the date of the reconvened meeting to be Monday, April 28, at 7.30 pm, this time at the De Valence.
The purpose of the meeting is to consider a proposal from the last-elected officers to wind up the Tenby2020 organisation and hand on the remaining funds to the De Valence Trust, which was set up four years ago to support events in the town and run the De Valence Arts and Community Centre.
If the proposal is agreed it is expected that the funds will be spent on forthcoming events like the Tenby Blues Festival scheduled for November, or the Winter Carnival at the end of the year. However, that will be for the meeting to decide.
On behalf of Tenby2020, Mike Thorne said: "It is clear from the poor attendance at last Monday's meeting that there is now little interest in the organisation, which is why we were proposing to dissolve in the first place.
"But the constitution of course quite properly sets a minimum number for a decision to be made at a general meeting, and we didn't reach that number on Monday evening.
"Unfortunately, the Tenby2020 funds will remain locked up until we can formally dissolve the association, and they are not doing Tenby any good languishing in a bank account. We will be trying again to get a decision a week on Monday, April 28, 7.30 pm, at the De Valence. All residents and business people of the town are welcome."
