Local councillors are to push for further glass recycling facilities within Tenby. The matter was discussed following a letter brought before the town council at their meeting on Tuesday evening. Local resident Peter Osborne informed the council that he had been in contact with Pembrokeshire County Council's commercial waste strategy officer, Tracey Bevan, who had responded positively to the idea of locating further glass banks in the town, with Mr. Osborne suggesting a possible location in the lay-by at the Telephone Exchange on The Norton. Mr. Osborne felt that additional facilities were needed as it was unreasonable to expect people, especially elderly residents in the town, to have to carry their glass waste to the unit at The Salterns. Councillors backed Mr. Osborne's request, with Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Kerri Durham, stating that they should write to county council on the matter. "We brought this idea up last year and had no real response, but now it is time to be proactive on the matter," she said. "We're not asking for huge glass recycling skips, just smaller dome style ones that you can walk to." Mayor, Clr. John Griffiths, felt that the idea was a feasible one and that a list of possible sites should be drawn up and forwarded to the county council.
