Celebrations were the order of the day when the Tenby Visually Impaired People Group met for their October meeting at the Avenue Centre on Tuesday.

Just eight days away from her 100th birthday, everyone joined with Gwen Gilson in an early birthday party.

The role call revealed an excellent attendance, and the afternoon's entertainment was provided by The Silvertones of Pembroke Dock.

Accompanist, Christine Lloyd, together with Joan Lewis, Henry Johnson, Owen Jones and Sam Thomas sang several old favourites with everyone joining in the choruses.

During the afternoon, refreshments were served by Margaret and Trevina, of Saundersfoot Inner Wheel, and Gwen cut a delicious birthday cake much enjoyed by all present.

She was also presented with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and cards from the group and the staff at the centre.

The highlight of the afternoon was Gwen's rendition of My Alice Blue Gown, one of her favourite pieces. There were more solos from the group, the closing sing-a-long being to songs from the Sound of Music.

Eva Rich thanked the Silvertones for coming along free of charge, and everyone agreed it had been a most wonderful afternoon.

Gwen thanked everyone for making the afternoon so enjoyable, and members went home humming all the tunes and taking home the remains of the birthday cake.

The next meeting of the group is on November 18, and if any visually impaired person is interested in joining, please contact the secretary, Margaret Walker, on 843464.
