The Andrew Price sponsored Tenby Under 9s travelled the short distance to Lamphey on Sunday and enjoyed a very well deserved victory at the annual Lamphey seven-a-side tournament. With perfect weather and top quality pitches, the scene was set for some good football, and Tenby duly obliged with a 4-0 win against hosts Lamphey, with goals from George, Jack, Billy and Adam. The boys looked on form. The second game was different, a tough local derby against Kilgetty, who stretched Ben, Harry and Jordan and maybe were a little unlucky not to have nicked the win. Jack and Billy had plenty of the ball, but the hard-working Kilgetty side closed them down at every opportunity and the game ended 0 -0. Game three was against Camrose and saw Tenby work a little harder, with Malley and Rhys both pushing forward and Natty, as ever, commanding his area. A win came and goals from George, Jack and Malley made it 3-0. Tenby's final group game was against a strong and hard-working Hundleton A. The boys had plenty of early possession and good work from Rhys and Jordan, along with strong tackling from Ben and Jack, seemed to lift the team and George scored the winner in the second half; it finished 1-0. The semi-finals saw Prendergast Villa beat Kilgetty 2-0 and Tenby beat a well-organised Fishguard 1 -0 with a well-taken goal from George. So it was Tenby against a strong and free-scoring Prendergast Villa in the final. And what a final it was! The final had taken the interest of a large crowd. The scene was set and neither side disappointed; the football was top class and the movement and passing from both sides was a credit to the boys. A forced change saw Harry limp off and Jordan and Ben held the top-scoring Villa forwards at bay, but it was Jack who smashed home a low drive past the Villa 'keeper to make it 1-0. Tenby had their tails up, but Prendergast had not come to lose. The game was end to end, but Natty was on top form with his saves and his kicking, and just before the break, Tenby scored again with a well-worked goal from Jack. Ben, Jordan and Billy ran themselves into the ground, as did George and Rhys with good runs into the Villa half, so at half-time it was 2-0 to Tenby, with Ben leading by example. The second half was only a minute old when Villa scored to make it 2-1, so it was game on. The tackles from the Tenby defence were getting stronger and stronger with the boys working so hard. Billy and Jack were joined by Malley, who replaced Jordan. Prendergast threw everything at the boys and Natty was the star of the last five minutes with saves that would not look out of place at a much older level. Adam and George always wanted the ball and had a few chances to score, but with everyone engrossed in an excellent final, the referee's whistle blew to end an excellent tournament with Tenby 2-1 winners. Jason and Lloyd have the makings of a very good team and the effort made by all 10 boys along with their willingness to play for each other showed in abundance. The boys enjoyed picking up the trophy and so they should; it was well deserved. Thanks to everyone who travelled to support the boys and as always, "Well done boys". Team: Natty John, Ben Howells, Harry Goforth, Jordan Cornick, Malley Paxton, Billy Truman, Jack Parkinson, George Taylor, Adam Davidson, Rhys Davis.
